Creepiest Places in the World - Part 2

You might remember that last autumn, just before Halloween, we talked about the creepy places around some big cities around the globe. Since it was fairly popular, I’m here to extend your knowledge of spooky places even more. If you like the supernatural or you are intrigued by mysteries, do read on. If you are more easily frightened gather some friends and make sure it’s daylight before proceeding.

World's most haunted castle

Leap Castle, Ireland

This castle is supposed to be the world’s most haunted castle. With a turbulent and bloody history, it used as a fortress, home and tomb. Leap Castle is home to many fascinating and sometimes horrific spirits, including a violent, hunched beast known only as the Elemental. While renovating the castle, workers discovered a dungeon accessible only through a ceiling hatch, into which prisoners are thrown, then forgotten and left to die. This particular dungeon contained three cartloads of human remains, and was filled with spikes to impale those thrown into its depths. Gruesome.

Body Farm, Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Sometimes we have to do some pretty disgusting things for science, but typically we don’t make them vacation spots. Studying the decomposition of the human body can give researchers lots of knowledge useful in the fields of medicine, forensics and more. But how do you watch a human body rot in real time? Well, you go to the body farm on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. The 2.5-acre plot of land is surrounded by a razor wire fence and at any time features multiple bodies laid out to decompose in various positions. Don't take a nap there. Scientists might come and prod you with various devices.

The Overtoun Bridge, Scotland

On the Overtoun Bridge of Scotland, for some odd reason, dogs leap to their death. When someone takes their dog on that bridge, it tries with all of its might to jump off and kill itself. If it survives the fall, it will get back up, and try to jump off again. Nothing the owner does to restrain their pet seems to stop the dog from trying to kill itself. Quite the mystery.

No dogs, please

The Old Melbourne Gaol is a museum and former prison located in Melbourne. Built in the mid-1800s, it once housed some of Australia’s most dangerous criminals.

Old Melbourne Gaol interior

The infamous Ned Kelly was hanged here, along with 132 other convicts. The severe grey stone building is rumored to be haunted by the souls of those who died here – including Elizabeth Scott, the first woman to be hanged in Victoria.

Disembodied voices, strange noises and cold spots have all been reported, and professional parapsychologist Darren Done claims to have detected changes in electro-magnetic radiation in the building, indicating paranormal activity.
