Fall Foliage: Best Cities to See the Leaves Change
Life in the northern hemisphere is changing. Warm sunny days battle with cool rainy days, a fresh wind is sweeping in, leaves are turning a golden hue and the days are becoming a bit shorter. Autumn / fall has officially begun.
And with that, some locations transform into a blanket of gold and red. It’s a beautiful sight, even our Kaplaners say so. Take a look at our top city picks for autumn.
First on the list is Boston where maple trees blaze fiery reds, oranges and yellows across the entire New England area. Many people tour specific areas or head out of the city to take in the spectacle, but there are many places within Boston you can visit.
Boston Common, the Public Garden, the leafy neighbourhood of Bay Back and the historic Harvard Square provide beautiful settings to take in the warm autumn tones.
Kaplan schools: We have 2 schools in Boston, one located a stone’s throw from the Fenway Park Stadium and close to the river, green spaces and lively bars and restaurants. Our other school is located in Harvard Square, opposite the road from the famous Ivy League Harvard University.
New York benefits from mild autumns that allow you to be outdoors exploring the city. With the Manhattan Island jam-packed with buildings, Central Park offers a much-needed piece of nature amongst the towering skyscrapers.
Our schools: We have 2 schools in New York, one located on the 63rd floor of the Empire State Building, where students can enjoy the views over Central Park. Our other school is based in SoHo, around the corner from Washington Square Park and close to NYU.

Philadelphia offers visitors and locals a beautiful sight for when fall takes hold. Historic Philly – which includes the Independence Hall and Liberty Bell, famous for the 4th July Declaration of Independence – also includes the upscale neighbourhood of Society Hill. Beautifully restored 18th-century row houses along the old and quaint streets makes for a scenic walk during fall. On the other side of town, Fairmont Park provides a beautiful outdoor space and the perfect spot to relax and take in the abundance of the fall foliage.
Our school: Our Philly school boast an incredibly central location, close to city hall, Chinatown and Old Philly. A well-connected location makes it quick and easy to visit all the different parts of the city.
Vancouver, set in British Columbia, is a big urban city surrounded by nature. Whether that’s Stanley Park or Whistler Mountain. Vancouver offers so much outdoor life that it’s easy to forget to enjoy everything the city has to offer – it’s full of delicious sushi spots.
In particular, Stanley Park provides a beautiful place to see the changing season. Walk the seawall, take in the majestic trees, trails, landmarks and wildlife.

London has 8 Royal Parks dotted around the city, from north London’s Regents Park and Primrose Hill where you can enjoy views over the city, to the central green spaces of Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, St. James's Park and Green Park. Greenwich Park, south of the river boasts views over London and of the River Thames, it's also home to the Meridian Line where every place on earth is measured from.
