The First Kaplan Cup Football Tournament
The first ever Kaplan Cup had two very exciting finals. Angola won the men’s competition and a special World Team triumphed in the women’s event.
Angola beat France 1-0 in the men's final. The women’s World Team, with students from Angola and Switzerland, scored in the last minute against Italy to win their own final 1-0.
More than one hundred Kaplan students competed in the Kaplan Cup. It was Kaplan's first international 5-a-side football tournament. Students played for their country, making up 20 teams. Men and women played in their own tournaments.
The Kaplan Cup event took place at the home of West Ham United, a Premier League football club in London. It is a huge stadium with 35,000 seats.
There was a crowd of hundreds of people watching the games. Many Kaplan students traveled to London to watch their friends play. For the full Kaplan Cup story, visit kaplan.do/kaplancup.
Students from Kaplan’s 12 schools across the United Kingdom and Ireland applied to play in the Kaplan Cup. The chosen ones discovered they were playing by watching a special video draw. Each team played in special national kits created for the tournament. The event was hosted by BBC presenter Mark Scott.
