Romantic destinations in the UK

One of the most romantic days of the year is coming up, so where are the best places to spend some time with your loved ones? To celebrate St. Valentine and get you in the mood for Valentine's Day, we’ve put together a guide to the most romantic spots in our Kaplan destinations in the UK

London

Rich in history, culture, and royal landmarks, it’s no wonder than London has been voted one of the most romantic cities in Europe. With an abundance of parks (Hyde Park, Kensington Palace Gardens, Richmond Park) and historic landmarks (St Paul's Cathedral, Tower of London, and Westminster Abbey) London is the perfect place for grabbing a picnic and finding a quiet spot to enjoy some food.

If you’re interested in sight seeing, you could even take a romantic stroll across one of London’s many canals, walk down across the Southbank, or even go for a boat ride across the River Island.

If you’ve got some money to spend, there always the option of taking a romantic ride on the London Eye. Rent a capsule for two, and enjoy some alone time as you take in the break taking views of the city and the London skyline.

Cambridge

If you’re lucky enough to be spending Valentine’s Day in Cambridge this year, you won’t be short of romantic things to do in this city. Filled with ancient buildings, cobbled streets, and riverbanks, Cambridge is the perfect backdrop for a romantic weekend.

Easily one of the most romantic (and delightfully clichéd) things to do in Cambridge is to enjoy a punt on the River Cam. Running through the center of Cambridge, a punt on the River Cam will give you an intimate view of the university colleges and a narrative of Cambridge’s history.

If punting isn’t for you, then head over to the varsity hotel rooftop for a bite to eat. The closest thing Cambridge has to a skyscraper, this rooftop restaurant offers panoramic views of the city. For truly special views, head over for an early dinner and watch the sun set over Cambridge.

Bournemouth

If a romantic walk along the beach sounds like a great way to spend Valentine’s Day, then you’ll be spoilt for choice in Bournemouth. With over 7 miles of sandy beaches, a beautiful pier, and busy sea front, this seaside town has a lot to offer. Whether you fancy chilling on deckchair, strolling along the beach, or relaxing in a beach hut, Bournemouth is the perfect place for couples, whatever the weather or time of year.

If you’d really like to pull out all the stops, then take your partner for a ride on Bournemouth’s wave 105 air balloon. Capturing both sunsets and sunrises, the balloon offers stunning views over the city and coastline, and is the perfect way to see the city from above.

Bath

If you want to do something a little bit different this Valentine’s Day, then nothing can beat a day at Bath’s Roman thermal baths. Built over 2,000 years ago, the bathing site is one of the biggest and greatest Roman remains in the world, boasting a thermal bath, plunge pool, terrace, roman statues, and ancient chambers for you to explore. As the only place in the UK where you can bathe in natural thermal waters, this is a unique and romantic experience.

If you’d rather stay dry on Valentine’s Day, then a trip to Bath Abbey is also well worth a visit. As one of the oldest and iconic churches in the UK, the church is free to visit, and is the perfect place to learn about Bath’s history and architecture. Once you’ve finished touring the abbey and learning about its history, don’t forget to climb to the top where you’ll enjoy beautiful views over Bath and the nearby countryside.
