Béca-ME Scholarship Winners Earn the Experience of a Lifetime
Five inspirational Spaniards will soon enjoy the experience of a lifetime after winning scholarships to learn English abroad with Kaplan International Colleges.
Kaplan International Colleges have awarded Béca-ME scholarships to five Spanish competition winners who impressed judges and Facebook fans with their aspirational essays.
Guadalupe Sánchez Martínez, Rubén Rodriguez Montero, Ana Abad de Larriva, Sofía Villafañe Escudero and Patricia Cid Jimenez will all begin a new, exciting chapter in their lives after demonstrating that they deserved the chance to travel abroad and learn English.
Montero, de Larriva, Escudero and Jimenez were all chosen by Kaplan judges because of their moving stories. Escudero’s tale of unemployment and a lack of opportunities caused by the economic crisis is similar to many Spaniards of her age.
The 26-year-old expressed that she would grab the chance to improve her employability and gain new life skills if only given the opportunity. Escudero will now take the first steps on her English learning journey in Canada.
Jimenez, 23, explained that she is eager to embrace life after facing a near-death incident. Jimenez has a new appreciation for life and said she is ready to make the most of the opportunities that come her way. Her next adventure is to study abroad in Australia or New Zealand.
Montero and de Larriva also impressed Kaplan’s panel of judges by expressing their passion for travelling and learning. They can both look forward to studying abroad in the East Coast of America and the UK and Ireland respectively.
Martínez inspired Kaplan’s Facebook fans to vote for her to study in the West Coast of America after posting an emotional essay, mentioning Stephen Hawking, which promoted the positive elements of experiencing new cultures when traveling.
Raquel Martinez, Head of Spain for Kaplan International, said: “Following the official announcement from the Ministry of Education not to grant any scholarships this year, there was quite a lot of disappointment expressed on the internet.
“At Kaplan International we wanted to bring back the excitement and motivation that those scholarships had given to students year after year. It has been a very emotional experience for all of us reading the essays full of dreams and aspirations. Students have fantastic values in Spain.”
More than 1,000 people entered the Béca-ME competition, which offered 5 tuition and accommodation scholarships in Kaplan locations in the USA, Canada, the UK and Ireland, and Australia and New Zealand.
Competition entrants were asked to write an essay entitled “The Experience of a Lifetime” explaining how they would fulfil their dreams and ambitions if they were given the chance to study abroad.
