[email protected]: Studying in New York and Auckland
One of my favorite things about working in the social media team at Kaplan is getting to talk to lots of different students. Last month on Twitter, I started speaking to Stéphanie, a Travel Blogger from France.
Stéphanie loved studying in New York Midtown so much that she decided to study again at our English school in Auckland. I asked her to share her experiences at both schools and why she loves travelling.
When did you study at Kaplan New York and Kaplan Auckland?
I studied at the Kaplan school in New York Midtown in 2008 and at Kaplan Auckland in 2011.
What made you decide to study at Kaplan twice?
I had such a good experience in New York that when I went on my working-holiday in New Zealand, I decided to perfect my English at Kaplan again.
Why did you chose New York and Auckland as your destinations?
It was always my dream to visit New York. It's a must-see city and it is one of my favourite places in the world! I chose Auckland because New Zealand was a country that I wanted to discover. It was the furthest English-speaking country that I could visit and I wanted to have a big adventure!
Which courses did you study?
In New York I took the Vacation English course, so I had 4 weeks to discover the city whilst improving my English very quickly. In Auckland, I took the General English course for twelve weeks.
What are the main differences and similarities between the two cities?
The USA is very different from New Zealand! New York is the city that never sleeps. I could live there. Auckland is a big city, but it's quieter, it has a unique New Zealand spirit you can't find anywhere else in the world! I love the people there very much. In terms of similarities, they are both multi cultural and cosmopolitan.
Why do you love to travel?
I travel to discover. Every country is different and I learnt so much in each country that I have been to. It's not only about the countries, it's also about me: I grow more every time I travel. But I never forget to keep my childhood spirit and keep dreaming!
How has learning English helped you to travel?
English is one of the most widely spread languages so I think that in any country you can find someone who speaks English. My goal is to learn some words and sentences in each country I go to, because I know that local people always appreciate that.
If you could choose another Kaplan destination to study at, which one would you chose?
If I had to go back to the USA, I would choose San Francisco, I went there 3 years ago and it's a great city!
How would you describe your Kaplan Experience?
Only positive. I speak fluent English now, and I use it in my work today (they are all impressed by my level, I'm so proud! I met great people and lots of them are still my friends today: we still meet somewhere in Europe for a week-end and it's always great fun! I would never have met them if I hadn't studied at Kaplan, so I'm very thankful.
