Kaplan’s Intensive English Academic Semester courses are a great way to boost your English proficiency up to the highest level, while spending up to six months in one of our worldwide schools.

What are Intensive English Academic Semester Courses?

Our Intensive English Academic Semester courses take Kaplan’s Intensive English course load and apply it over an entire semester (two quarters). You’ll study for around 25 hours a week, and learn everything from basic vocabulary to specialized phrases in the specific areas that you would like to practice. Kaplan’s Intensive English Academic Semester will boost your career prospects, both abroad and in your own country, and let you fully immerse yourself in the culture of your destination country. You’ll have plenty of time to explore, make new friends, and take part in your school’s busy social program!

  • Course Length: 5-6 months (20-24 weeks of tuition + 1-2 weeks of vacation)
  • Minimum Age: 16
  • Requirements: Elementary to Advanced English (your class allocation will be determined by an English Level Test)
  • Class Size: 10–15
  • Lessons per Week: 20 General English (15 hours), 8 Specific Skills (6 hours) + 7 Structured Study (5.25 hours)
  • Timetable: All courses are Monday-Friday, with morning and afternoon classes only (general timetable below)

Course Structure

45 minute lessons for a minimum of 20 weeks.

20 Lessons of General English:

Focus on the four main aspects of language: reading, writing, listening and speaking. These courses offer a semi-intensive English education that will help you learn quickly and effectively.

7 Sessions of K+ tools, K+ clubs:

Take advantage of resources and activities such as language exercises, course books, online and offline materials, study clubs and project work, specifically tailored to complement your in-class lessons.

8 Lessons of Specific Skills:

Options differ according to your school, but some of our popular options include Vocabulary, Local Culture and Film Studies.


At the end of the course, receive a Kaplan International Colleges Certificate of Achievement documenting your language level and attendance.
