Do you want to spend a year abroad, learning English and really getting to know a new country and its culture? Kaplan’s Academic Year courses combine a first class English education with valuable qualifications, and a once-in-a-lifetime overseas experience.

What are English Academic Year Courses?

Our English Academic Year course is a 9 month course that combines learning English with a variety of other related studies to bring your English fluency up to the highest possible level. You will also have the chance to learn specific skills of your choice – from Business English vocabulary to film criticism.

English Academic Year courses are available in all of our locations in Canada, Ireland, Malta, the UK and the US. You’ll be able to take advantage of our schools’ busy social calendars all year long, and have plenty of free time and holidays to go exploring, head off on ski trips, or spend a week on the beach!

  • Course Length: 9 months (32 weeks of tuition + 2-3 weeks of vacation)
  • Minimum Age: 16
  • Requirements: Elementary to Advanced English (your class allocation will be determined by an English Level Test)
  • Class Size: 10–15
  • Lessons per Week: 20 General English (15 hours) + 7 Structured Study (5.25 hours)
  • Timetable: All courses are Monday-Friday, with morning and afternoon classes only (general timetable below)

Course Structure

45 minute lessons for a minimum of 32 weeks.

20 Lessons of General English:

General English Courses focus on the four main aspects of language: reading, writing, listening and speaking. These courses offer a semi-intensive English education that will help you learn quickly and effectively.

7 Sessions of Structured Study:

Take advantage of resources and activities such as language exercises, course books, online and offline materials, study clubs and project work.

Certification

At the end of the course, receive a Kaplan International Colleges Certificate of Achievement documenting your language level and attendance.
