What to do post-interview

Two months ago, we started the career pathway with articles for job searching, subject choosing and interview technique. But that was not the end to the story - there’s one more step before you can land that dream job!
At this point you have a brilliant CV, applied for that interesting job and they’ve called you for an interview. Common symptoms of post-interview can involve biting your nails, checking your inbox every second and asking your relatives who called anytime you leave your house. We know - we’ve all been there!
Read on to see what can happen and what to do during this tense time!
What happens next depends on each individual recruitment process. In small companies, the aspirants will probably be a maximum of 10 people and within a week the recruiters should have come back to you with an answer.
If their response hasn’t arrived by the time they had arranged with you, try sending an email thanking them for the opportunity to attend the interview and confirming your interest in the role.
For international or larger companies as well as higher responsibility positions, things can be more complex as you could be called for several interviews:
- First of all, it could happen through a phone interview with a superior, such as someone in HR or an agent. Here they will try to find out if your qualification and experience would be suitable for the position available.
- The next interview is usually a personal one with someone at HR or with future management. However, the interview can be organised in different ways:
- For very technical positions, there may be a knowledge test.
- It can be a group interview where your interviewer evaluates your team work abilities.
- Sometimes they can focus on group dynamic so that different teams are created and you are provided with some resources so you have to compete to achieve a goal. They will be looking at your role within the team and analysing your leadership skills.
Normally 10 - 15 candidates will be called.
- The second interview (if you get to this point!) is usually a personal, one to one encounter. It may or may not be the same person who interviewed you last time and can even be set in a group. Depending on how structured the interview is, they could either follow a series of questions or could be more like a conversation, which is fantastic as you can answer more broadly about your experience, goals and skills. Around 3 - 5 people attend this interview.
This is a process that can last some time usually between 15 days and a month so relax, make clear how interested you are for the role and be patient for their decision.
