봄 관련 어휘 

기나 긴 겨울이 지나고 맞는 누구나 기다리고 모두에게 환영받는 계절, 봄. 어떤 영어 표현을 사용할 수 있을까요? 

Bloom: when plants and flowers start to flourish - 피어나다, 피다 
The tulips are always the first spring flowers to bloom. - 튤립은 봄에 가장 처음 피는 꽃입니다. 

Breeze: a gentle wind -  산들바람 
There is a fresh breeze this afternoon, a relief from the howling winter winds. - 오늘 오후 혹독한 겨울 바람을 잊게 해주는 산들바람이 분다. 

Bright: sunnier and lighter - 밝은 
Since the clocks have been turned back the days are so bright, it’s lovely! - 시계가 돌아온 후 날들은 밝습니다. 사랑스러워요. 

Drizzle: light rain - 이슬비 
Some days there is a light drizzle, but you don’t need an umbrella. - 어떤 날에는 이슬비가 내리지만 우산이 굳이 필요하지는 않습니다. 

Fresh: not hot but not cold - 신선한 
It’s a perfect day for a walk outside, the air is so fresh. - 공기가 신선하니 산책을 가기에 완벽한 날입니다. 

Puddles: when water pools after rain - 물웅덩이 
After heavy rains the park is full of kids jumping in the puddles. - 호우가 내린 후에 공원은 물웅덩이에서 뛰어노는 아이들로 가득합니다. 

Thaw: when the warm sun begins to melt the ice of winter - 녹다 
My favorite season is spring when everything outside begins to thaw and comes to life again. - 제가 가장 좋아하는 계절은 얼었던 모든 것이 녹고 다시 피어날 때인 봄입니다. 

여름 관련 어휘

여름에 주로 사용할 수 있는 어휘는 기온 상승이라던지 화창한 날씨, 길어진 낮 시간 등이 있습니다.

Boiling / scorching: very hot - 푹푹 찌는 
Today is a scorcher, it’s boiling! We need to swim. - 오늘은 날씨가 푹푹 찌는군! 수영이 필요해. 

Blue skies: clear skies that are a feature of summer days - 맑게 갠 하늘 
I woke up this morning to blue skies, what a perfect day. - 오늘 일어났는데 하늘이 맑아, 완벽한 날같아요. 

Heatwave: unusually hot weather - 열파 
I wish I wasn’t stuck in the office during the heatwave, I want to be enjoying the outdoors. - 열파 기간에는 사무실에 서 일하지 않았으면, 야외활동을 

In the shade: find refuge under the cool trees away from the sun - 그늘에서 
It’s too hot today, let’s a find a spot to sit in the shade. - 오늘은 너무 덥다. 앉을 그늘가를 찾아보자. 

Not a cloud in the sky: a perfectly blue sky - 구름 한 점 없는 파란 하늘
It definitely won’t rain today, there is not a cloud in the sky. - 하늘에 구름 한 점이 없는 걸 보니 오늘은 틀림없이 비가 안내릴거야. 

Stay out of the sun: too hot to be in direct sunlight - 햇빛을 피하다.  
Try to stay out of the sun at midday when it’s the strongest. - 정오에는 해가 가장 뜨거우니 햇빛을 피하려고 노력한다.

Sun-kissed: the look of spending time in the sun - 햇빛에 그을린 
I love to tan on holiday and come back looking sun-kissed. - 전 휴가기간에 태닝 후 그을린 피부로 돌아오는 게 좋아요. 

가을 관련 어휘 

여름기간 동안의 기나긴 휴가가 끝난 후 자켓과 점퍼를 꺼내 입고, 차가운 아이스크림보다는 따뜻한 커피를 더 찾게 되는 가을에는 주로 어떤 날씨 어휘가 쓰일까요?

Bundle up: layer up your clothing to keep warm - 껴입다. 둘러싸다. 
It’s forecast to be cold tomorrow so make sure you bundle up. - 내일은 추울 거라는 일기예보가 있으니, 단단히 껴입도록 해. 

Crisp: cool and fresh - 상쾌한
Who doesn’t love a bright crisp autumn day. - 누군들 밝고 상쾌한  가을 오후를 좋아하지 않을까. 

Foggy: a thick cloud that restricts visibility - 안개가 낀 
It was difficult to see far this morning as it was so foggy. - 오늘 아침엔 안개가 짙어 멀리 보기가 힘들었다. 

Getting colder: warm weather is turning cooler - 갈수록 추워진다. 
I can feel the evening are getting colder. - 저녁시간에 점점 추워지는 게 느껴진다. 

Muddy: covered in mud - 진흙투성이인 
It’s been raining a lot; the park is too muddy to walk in. - 비가 많이 내려서 공원을 산책하기에는 너무 진흙길이다.

Rustle of leaves: the sound of dry leaves - 낙엽이 바스락거리는 소리 
The leaves rustled in a gust of wind. -  돌풍에 낙엽이 바스락거린다. 

겨울 어휘 

낮 동안의 파란 하늘과 따뜻한 햇살이 내리쬐는 가을이 지나고 긴 저녁과 눈내리는 나날들이 지속되는 겨울에 사용되는 어휘는 무엇이 있을까요? 

Below zero / bitter cold: freezing cold -  영하의 날씨 / 혹독하게 추운 
I heard this weekend is going to be bitterly cold, I think it’s better we stay indoors. - 이번 주말에는 혹독하게 추울 거라고 들었어. 실내에 머무는 게 나을 거 같아. 

Cold front: particularly gloomy weather approaching - 한랭 전선 
Oh no! A cold front is coming next week, it’s going to be freezing. - 맙소사! 한랭 전선이 다음 주에 온다네, 엄청 추울거야. 

Howling winds: strong winds - 세찬 바람, 휘몰아치는 돌풍 
The sound of the howling winds woke me up in the middle of the night. - 휘몰아치는 돌풍소리로 한 밤 중에 깼다.  

Icy: very cold - 얼음같이 찬 
The wind this evening feels so icy cold. - 오늘 저녁 바람이 얼음같이 차게 느껴졌다. 

In the dead of winter: in the middle of the season when it's very cold - 한겨울에 
We’ve decided to escape the dead of winter and travel to a sunny destination. - 우리는 한겨울을 피해  화창한 곳으로 여행을 가기로 결심했다. 

Toasty: warm and cosy - 훈훈한 
Tonight, I’m spending a toasty evening in front of the television. - 오늘 밤, 나는  TV 앞에서 훈훈한 저녁을 보낼거야. 

Winter blues: feeling gloomy during the season - 겨울 우울증 
The long dark nights give me the winter blues. - 길고 어두운 겨울밤은 겨울 우울증을 가져온다.
