Torquay is a wonderful seaside town on the south coast of England, and home to stunning beaches and nearby quaint villages. But what can you do there? Here are our eight favourite things to do in Torquay: 


1 Watersports 

It would be a crime to travel to Torquay and not make the most of the range of water sports on offer. Aside from surfing and kayaking, one of the most popular water-based activities is paddleboarding. Imagine gliding through the waters on your board while you take in the breathtaking scenery and deliciously fresh sea-air: bliss!

2 Beaches and coves 

However, if sunbathing and a light paddle is more your thing, then the bay also offers many different beaches and coves that are perfect for relaxing on. Some of the local favourites include Meadfoot Beach (great for exploring rockpools) and Beacon Cove, AKA the perfect place for a refreshing swim while admiring the dramatic red sandstone cliffs.

3 Paignton Zoo 

With over 2000 species of animals and plants on offer, Paignton Zoo is a nature-lovers paradise! Spend the day meeting all your favourite animals – from gorillas to giraffes, rhinos to red pandas – and let your inner child out as you learn fascinating facts about the planet’s most precious and endangered animals.

4 Agatha Christie tour 

If you’re a fan of the proclaimed ‘Queen of Crime’ then you might be interested to know that Torquay is the famed author’s birthplace! Take one of the many tours available and discover the locations and landmarks that inspired her work, as well as places she herself frequented!

5 Torre Abbey 

Spend the day at Torbay’s most historic building and learn about the monument’s ancient history, dating all the way back to 1196. The extensive grounds feature immaculate gardens, a museum, and a gallery boasting an impressive art collection.  

As if that’s not enough, the estate also hosts different exhibitions, festivals and events that keeps tourists and locals alike entertained throughout the year.

6 Kents Cavern 

Discover Britain’s most important prehistoric caves at Kents Caverns. The former home of ancient humans, these glistening caves quite literally dazzle visitors! Marvel at the breathtaking geological formations as you learn more about this fascinating archaeological discovery.

7 Cockington Country Park 

Set across 450 acres of woodland, gardens, and stunning countryside, this park also features a quaint village with thatched cottages where you can buy gifts and souvenirs. To top it off with a stroll round the historic manor house, where you can have afternoon tea and discover local artists at the contemporary art gallery.

8 Seafari Boat Tour 

For something slightly more adventurous, take part in a thrilling boat trip that showcases the dramatically stunning coastline, and discover marine wildlife, including seals and dolphins, along the way! Feel the sea-breeze on your face as you take in Torquay from a whole new perspective.
