Cultural Vistas J-1 Programs Offered

Kaplan International Program

Part-time English with a Business English Component

In order to prepare for the workplace in the United States, Kaplan International offers program participants the opportunity to take our part-time English course (15 hrs/ week of General English Integrated Skills) with an additional Business English component for 4 weeks, during the admission period allowed on a J Visa before commencement of the internship.

Our course will help you improve your general English language skills as well as learn specific communication skills for the workplace. You will learn the vocabulary you need to thrive in business settings and efficiently collaborate with English-speaking colleagues.

Additionally, participants will be able to purchase Kaplan’s exclusive online learning materials K +tools ahead of the English course to practice grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.

Immersion Internship

Our Immersion Internship courses in the UK and Ireland are a great first step into the working world and a fantastic opportunity to greatly improve your English. No prior experience is required, and with a minimum English level of Lower Intermediate, this internship is a perfect chance to boost your English skills quickly as you gain work experience and improve your CV. You will study English for 4 weeks or longer, and after you complete your studies we’ll provide a minimum 4-week Internship placement in a professional area of interest through Kaplan's partner CEI. In many instances you’ll even be able to extend your placement at the end of your program if you wish.

You can choose from a wide range of professions, and we guarantee you a placement into one of 2-3 of your preferred fields.

Professional Internship

Our Professional Internship programs allow Kaplan students who have already begun to develop their skills in a university or through other work experience to boost their CV even further and quickly enhance their employability and English skills. You will study English for 8 weeks or longer, and after you complete your studies we’ll provide a minimum, 8-week Internship placement in a professional area of interest through Kaplan's partner CEI. In many cases, this Internship can be extended beyond 8 weeks if you wish.

You can choose from a range of professions, and we will guarantee you a placement into one of 2-3 of your preferred fields.

Experience required: Minimum Year 2 of university in a field similar to the placement, or 2 years work experience in the industry of the placement

Paid job placement

Our work placement courses allow you to improve your English skills as you earn a bit of extra spending money and gain invaluable work experience*. You will study English for 8 weeks or longer, and we’ll set you up with three job interviews through Kaplan's partner CEI. At your job, you’ll continue to improve both your general and workplace-specific English skills at the same time you earn some extra cash and build up experience to show off to future employers. In many cases, employers will be happy to keep you on longer than the minimum 8 weeks of placement.

The type of work you may do varies from working in hotels and retail stores to waiting tables in bars and restaurants.

*Please note that your salary will cover some general living costs, but may not cover all your expenses to live in London or Dublin.

New Zealand

Internship

Our internship courses in Auckland are the perfect way to apply skills you’ve begun to develop at university or from work experience. For a recently graduated high school student, an internship provides an opportunity to learn new work skills in an English-speaking business environment and may satisfy prerequisites for your future tertiary study. For all students, it will add an international dimension to your CV.

You can choose from a wide range of fields of work in both corporate and not for profit organisations and Kaplan will organise a placement within one of your 3 preferred fields.

Australia

Demi-Pair

Combine an English course with a part-time job as an au pair. Study during the day, and outside class time work 15 hours a week helping look after children for a host family in exchange for your meals and lodging.

The program begins with up to 4 weeks of assessment and training depending on your level of experience working with children.

* Student visa holders must stay for a minimum of 3 months. Working Holiday visa holders can study English for a maximum 17 weeks (minimum 16 weeks for this program.
